Renewable energy generation from waste landfills

This project focuses on the production of renewable energy by utilizing landfill gas from landfills in Nyíregyháza-Oros and Debrecen, Hungary. The waste disposal started in 1985 and reached approximately 1,600,000 tons of municipal and other waste by the end of 2008.

Since 2005, the project has been producing 4-8 GWh of green electricity annually by capturing and using methane from the landfill gas. This process significantly reduces CO2 emissions associated with electricity generation and prevents the release of methane-rich gas into the atmosphere.
